If you are a Commonwealth citizen and have a grandparent who was born in the UK, the UK Ancestry Visa may be a route for you to live and work in the UK. To qualify under this route, one of your grandparents must have been born in the UK, the Channel Islands, or the Isle of Man. You may also qualify if one of your grandparents was born in the Republic of Ireland before 31st March 1922. The UK Ancestry route is only available to applicants applying from outside the UK and cannot be accessed as an in-country switch from another visa category. Applications made from within the UK will normally be refused unless there are exceptional circumstances that may favour the exercise of discretion.

The route leads to the settlement. After five years of continuous residence, UK Ancestry visa holders may be eligible to apply for indefinite leave to remain, provided they have been working throughout the qualifying period and meet the continuous residence & English language requirements. If you believe you may be eligible under this route, please feel free to contact us at hi@kb-law.co.uk, or Book an Appointment and we will be more than happy to legally assist you.
